Landis Lund, is another American owned engineering company, on the edge of the village, which produces high quality, cylindrical grinding machines, for the world’s automotive industry. It currently employs 377 people, with an additional 58 employees based at the Cranfield Precision Division. There is also a growing light industrial, wholesale distribution area, down by the Aire Valley Trunk Road.
Most of the farms in the area are still involved in dairy and beef cattle and sheep farming, but prices for livestock are currently so low, that diversification is becoming even more essential. Also many of the farmers’ sons and daughters, are training for other occupations, so it is expected that the remaining farms will become larger and the former farmhouses will continue to become private dwellings. However there has been a change of local policy towards barn conversions and more encouragement is now given to economic uses.
