Millennium ProjectsGlusburn Primary School were also keen to have a garden, to act as a quiet sitting area for the children. This has been developed as a wildlife garden to be used at playtimes. Ellisons Holdings plc kindly agreed to sponsor this. Additional money resulting from the sale of the paintings and books has also been used.
The area has been fenced on one side and also around the existing pond for safety reasons. The gate has been rehung and an area of shingle created to provide a dry entrance. Bark paths have been dug out and a willow shelter built. Large rocks and tree trunks have been brought in to provide some seating. A low wall is also to be built as a feature, but which will act as an additional sitting area. A tree planting morning was incorporated into the School Fair and about 70 trees were planted by the pupils and their parents. Bulbs, shrubs and habitats for wildlife are currently being added. The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers have acted as the main advisers to the project, which was masterminded by Kate Beaufoy who was assisted by a number of parents.
